Relay LED light, Colour & Pattern Guide
Written By Gareth Lloyd
Relay Device – LED Light, Color & Pattern Guide This document defines the meaning of all LED lights, colors, and flashing patterns displayed by the relay device during startup, network activity, sensor communication, data transmission, sleep, and error conditions.
The device uses different colors and flash counts to indicate specific states. Some indicators occur on startup, others occur every few minutes, and others occur only during communication or fault conditions.
Startup / Reset / Reboot
5 × Blue flashes
-Bluetooth has initialized correctly
-Confirms a successful startup / reset / reboot-Indicates the device is ready for operation
Periodic Status Display (Every Few Minutes)
Every few minutes, the device displays its current internal state using 3 flashes. These are not called “normal” states, as error conditions may also be displayed.
3 × Green - Device is connected to the network and operating correctly (healthy / power-saving state)
3 × White - Device is in sleep / hibernate mode
3 × Red - Last network connection attempt failed (network not found / unsuccessful) Pattern MeaningError & Unknown States
More serious or undefined problems are displayed using 5 or 10 red flashes.
5 x Red - Device is in an error state
10 x Red - Unknown/Critical failure state (not successful in connecting)
These states indicate the device requires attention or investigation.Network Search & Connection
When the device is attempting to find and connect to a network, it uses violet and green/red indicators.
Searching
Solid Violet
-The device is actively searching for a network
-Connection attempt is in progress
Result
5 x Green flashes - Successfully connected to the network.
10 x Red flashes - Not successful in connecting to the network.
The result follows directly after the solid violet search indication.Sensor Discovery & Bluetooth Communication
When the relay communicates with sensors, it uses blue light patterns.
Solid Blue - Scanning for Bluetooth SensorsBlue activity / flashes - Sensor found and connection established
Blue (active) - Data is being transmitted from sensor to relay
Sensor also turns Blue - Confirms active communication with the relay
Cloud / Server Transmission
Once sensor data is collected and the relay is connected to the network, data is sent to the cloud (server network).
Solid Violet - Sending data to the cloud over the server network
5 x Green Flashes - Data/file successfully sent to the cloud
3 x Violet flashes - Rx window closed; relay is disconnected from cellular network
This sequence typically marks the completion of one full data upload cycle.Complete Quick-Reference Table
5 Blue - Startup complete / Bluetooth initialized
3 Green - Periodic status → Connected & healthy
3 White - Periodic status → Sleeping
3 Red - Periodic status → Network not found / last connection failed
Solid Blue - Scanning for sensors
Blue activity - Connected & transferring data via Bluetooth
Solid Violet (network) - Searching for network
Solid Violet (cloud) - Sending data to cloud
5 Green - Successful connection / successful data send
3 Violet - Rx window closed, network exchange active
5 Red - Error state
10 Red - Unknown / critical state / connection unsuccessful
